Imran Khan supporters asked to remove t-shirts at PAK vs CAN match

Supporters of former Pakistan PM Imran Khan were reportedly asked to remove t-shirts displaying political messages during the Pakistan vs Canada clash at the Nassau County stadium in New York. The incident occurred on Sunday during the T20 World Cup match.

According to journalist Peter Della Penna, security officials confiscated flags of Imran Khan’s political party, PTI, from fans in the stadium. Additionally, a spectator claimed to have overheard officials instructing another fan to cover a t-shirt featuring a picture of Imran Khan. These measures were reportedly taken to prevent any political demonstrations during the sporting event.

Despite the off-field controversies, Pakistan’s cricket team finally registered their first win of the T20 World Cup 2024. Babar Azam and his team secured a convincing seven-wicket victory against Canada, keeping their hopes of progressing to the Super 8 stage alive. This victory came after Pakistan’s disappointing losses to the USA and India at the same venue.

Former World Cup winner Imran Khan has been jailed for over a year and faces multiple legal cases. His supporters continue to show their allegiance, even at international sporting events, which has led to heightened security measures.

Pakistan’s win against Canada has rejuvenated their campaign, giving fans hope for better performances in the upcoming matches.
