IPL 2025 retention policy and auction details expected by September 29
The much-anticipated details of the IPL 2025 retention policy, along with the auction date and venue, are set to be announced by September 29. With reports suggesting that franchises will be allowed to retain up to 5 players, the policy is expected to be a “3+2” model—where a maximum of three Indian and two overseas players can be retained. Additionally, it is believed that Right to Match (RTM) cards will not be part of the mega auction.
IPL GC Meeting Today for Final Decisions
An IPL Governing Council meeting is scheduled for today (September 28) at 6:30 PM at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bengaluru. The meeting, originally set for 11:30 AM, was rescheduled and will precede the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM). Key figures like Arun Dhumal (IPL Chairman), Jay Shah (BCCI Secretary), Ashish Shelar (BCCI Treasurer), Avishek Dalmiya, ICA representative Vankina Chamundeswara Nath, and CM Sane are expected to attend. This meeting will finalize the retention rules and, potentially, the auction details.
Auction Date and Venue for IPL 2025
The announcement regarding the auction date and venue has faced delays, with the original retention policy deadline in August being pushed back. With time running out, it is likely that the auction details will be announced simultaneously with the retention policy. While the auction has traditionally taken place in India in December, last year’s event was held in Dubai. For IPL 2025, the auction is expected to be held outside India again, with Dubai, Doha, or Saudi Arabia as the likely options. The tentative dates are November 16-17 or November 23-24.
The announcements from the meeting are eagerly awaited, as they will shape the future of team compositions and strategies ahead of the IPL 2025 season.
