Pat Cummins registers first hat-trick of T20 World Cup 2024

Just hours after receiving the Sir Garfield Sobers trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2023, Pat Cummins took a stunning hat-trick against Bangladesh in their T20 World Cup Super 8 match in Antigua on Friday.

Cummins, who captains Australia’s Test and ODI teams, dismissed Mahmudullah, Mahedi Hasan and Towhid Hridoy, becoming the fourth Australian to achieve a hat-trick in T20 internationals.

Bowling the 18th over of Bangladesh’s innings, Cummins first dismissed Mahmudullah. A slower ball edged onto the stumps off the inside edge sent him back to the pavilion. The next delivery saw Mahedi Hasan hitting the ball straight into Adam Zampa’s hands at third man for a golden duck. Towhid Hridoy then scooped the first ball of the following over into Josh Hazlewood’s hands at short fine-leg, completing Cummins’ hat-trick. Cummins is now the second Australian, after Brett Lee, to take a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup.

This remarkable feat added to Cummins’ already impressive day, marking a memorable performance both on and off the field.
