The India team put on a dominant display in the 1st T20I, crushing Bangladesh by 7 wickets with more than 8 overs to spare. Mayank Yadav and Nitish Kumar Reddy made their debuts in that match, and now there’s speculation that another young pacer, Harshit Rana, could step into the India Playing XI.

If Rana gets his India cap, Nitish Kumar Reddy may be the one to sit out. This would allow India to inject fresh pace into their bowling attack. Riyan Parag, who didn’t get a chance to bat in the 1st T20I, could move up the order to provide more balance to the batting lineup.

Top Order Set for the 2nd T20I
Skipper Suryakumar Yadav had made it clear that Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma would open the innings, and their partnership is likely to continue. Both batters got off to a flying start in the first game, with Sanju scoring 29 off 19 balls and Abhishek contributing 16 runs from just 7 deliveries. This aggressive start puts the opposition on the backfoot early in the game.

Suryakumar Yadav will take his usual spot at number 3, where he blasted 29 runs off 14 balls in the last game. Riyan Parag could move up to number 4, while Hardik Pandya and Rinku Singh will be the finishers in the lineup.

The Bowling Attack
India’s pace attack will once again be led by Arshdeep Singh, who took 3 wickets in the 1st T20I. He will be joined by Mayank Yadav, who made his debut in Gwalior. Harshit Rana, the local boy, could get his debut in front of his home crowd, rounding off the pace trio. Hardik Pandya will serve as the fourth pacer, providing additional depth to the bowling attack.

Varun Chakravarthy impressed with 3 wickets in the last game, ensuring his spot in the team. However, this means Ravi Bishnoi will likely miss out once again.

India is already 1-0 up in the series, and the opportunity to test fresh talent, like Rana, is ripe.

Harshit Rana’s Debut on the Cards?

Like Mayank Yadav, Harshit Rana was rewarded for his excellent performances in the IPL 2024 and domestic cricket. Unlike some of his peers, Rana has remained injury-free and is ready to make an impact if given the chance. With India having won the first match, this could be the ideal time for the team management to introduce Rana, unless they prefer to secure the series win before making any changes.

India’s bowling unit, led by Arshdeep Singh and supported by Mayank Yadav, put in a solid performance in the first T20I, which makes it even more compelling to see if Rana can add to the strength of the pace attack. With limited series left before senior bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj return, this is the perfect opportunity for Rana to prove his worth.

Rana’s Rising Star

Since making his IPL debut in 2022, Harshit Rana has steadily improved, making a mark with his pace and ability to take crucial wickets. He ended the 2024 IPL season with 19 wickets, a significant improvement from his 2023 tally. Additionally, Rana’s four-wicket haul in the Duleep Trophy 2024 solidified his case for a place in the national team. While he was named in the squad for the India vs Sri Lanka ODIs earlier, he didn’t get the chance to play. This series against Bangladesh could finally be his moment.

India Squad for IND vs BAN T20Is:

Suryakumar Yadav (C), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakaravarthy, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav.

All eyes will be on whether Harshit Rana takes the field in the second T20I, and if he does, fans can expect an exciting display of fast bowling as the young pacer looks to cement his place in the team.

Despite traveling with Team India since July, Rana has yet to receive his maiden cap. With India facing Bangladesh in the second T20I on October 9 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, there’s growing anticipation over whether Rana will finally make his debut.

Chances of Harshit Rana Debuting in the 2nd T20I

There’s a strong possibility that Harshit Rana could make his T20I debut in the next match. His performances in IPL 2024 and the domestic circuit have been impressive, with his pace and consistency catching the eye of selectors. After giving debuts to Nitish Kumar Reddy and Mayank Yadav in the first T20I, Indian coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakumar Yadav may be inclined to test Rana’s abilities in the second game.

Potential Impact on Harshit Rana’s IPL Future

Rana’s debut could have significant implications for his future in the Indian Premier League (IPL). With the 2025 IPL auction approaching, an international cap would increase his value. Currently, uncapped players in the IPL are retained for up to ₹4 crore, but once Rana makes his international debut, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will have to retain him for a minimum of ₹11 crore. This would mark a substantial increase in his salary and position him as a key player for the future.

As the second T20I approaches, all eyes are on whether Harshit Rana will finally step onto the international stage.

A key question on everyone’s mind is whether speedster Harshit Rana will make his debut in this game. With the Men in Blue coming off a seven-wicket win with more than eight overs to spare, changes to the lineup could focus on adding an extra pacer, and Harshit Rana may get his opportunity.

Potential Changes to Playing XI

To make space for Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy might have to sit out. This could shift Riyan Parag up the batting order, giving him more time in the middle, while injecting fresh pace into India’s bowling attack.

Top Order: Steady and Ready

The opening duo is expected to remain the same, with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma continuing to set the stage. Both openers were in good form in the first match, with Sanju scoring 29 off 19 balls and Abhishek smashing a quick 16 off 7. Their strong start gives India the upper hand over opponents from the get-go.

Suryakumar Yadav, who will slot in at number 3, will aim to continue his explosive form. He added 29 runs off 14 balls in the first match, cementing his spot in the lineup. Riyan Parag, potentially moving up to number 4, will have the opportunity to showcase his batting skills if given a chance to face the bowlers.

Middle Order and Finishers

Rinku Singh will take on the role of India’s finisher, bringing his aggressive playing style to the team. Washington Sundar will play the anchor role, with the ability to shift gears and hit big shots when required. His performance in practice sessions has highlighted his capability to add value to the lineup.

The Pace Department: Harshit Rana’s Chance

With Arshdeep Singh leading India’s pace attack, there’s a strong chance Harshit Rana will debut in the second T20I. Arshdeep’s experience and success – having taken three wickets in the previous match and accumulating 86 wickets from just 50 games since his debut in 2022 – provide a steady foundation. Mayank Agarwal is expected to continue his partnership with Arshdeep in the pace attack, and if Rana joins, it will add even more depth to the bowling lineup.

Overall, the addition of Harshit Rana could boost India’s already strong pace unit, offering a balance between batting depth and bowling power.

Rishabh Pant, Navdeep Saini, and Harshit Rana are among the key players confirmed for the inaugural season, which will be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Despite currently being in Sri Lanka, Pant and Rana are expected to participate as there are no international or domestic fixtures overlapping with the tournament’s schedule. Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) chief Rohan Jaitley confirmed that Pant has promised his involvement, barring any unforeseen national commitments. Saini and Rana are also set to join the action.

The DPL will feature six teams—West Delhi Lions, North Delhi Strikers, South Delhi Superstarz, Purani Delhi-6, Delhi Kings, and East Delhi Riders—following an auction on July 28, where the teams were sold for a total of Rs 49.65 crore. The league will consist of 40 games, with 33 matches for men and 7 for women. The women’s games will be part of a shorter series within the league.

The player draft includes 270 cricketers from Delhi’s national, U23, and U19 teams, with potential appearances from IPL veterans like Ishant Sharma, Yash Dhull, Mayank Yadav, and Anuj Rawat. While the first half of the league is clear of scheduling conflicts, the final, set for September 8, will overlap with the start of the Duleep Trophy on September 5.
