Mumbai’s promising off-spinner, Himanshu Singh, has been called up to the Indian cricket camp in Chennai ahead of the first Test against Bangladesh. Though Himanshu is yet to feature in Mumbai’s senior team, this invitation highlights his hard work and growing reputation in domestic cricket.

The 21-year-old made headlines with a stellar performance in the Dr (Capt) K Thimmappiah Memorial Tournament, where he took 7 wickets for 74 runs in Mumbai’s match against Andhra. His consistent performances for Mumbai’s U-16 and U-23 teams have caught the attention of national selectors.

Himanshu’s journey to the national camp has been shaped by his participation in the BCCI’s ‘emerging players’ camps, where he received guidance from experienced coaches. Standing at six-foot-four, his bowling action and control have drawn comparisons to veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

The camp, which will run from September 13 to 18, is seen as a vital step in his cricketing journey. India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar and his team have been keeping an eye on Himanshu’s progress, seeing potential in him to represent India on the international stage soon.
