Under this agreement, matches between the two nations during ICC events will take place at neutral venues chosen by the tournament host.

Key highlights of the agreement:

Neutral venues: India’s matches during the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, to be hosted by Pakistan, will be played at a neutral venue. Similarly, Pakistan’s matches in ICC events hosted by India will also occur at neutral venues.

Future events: The hybrid arrangement applies to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 (in India), the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 (in India and Sri Lanka), and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2028 (in Pakistan).

Venue proposals: The host country’s cricket board will propose neutral venues, subject to ICC approval.

Champions Trophy 2025:
Set to begin on February 19, the Champions Trophy’s venue details remain undecided as the schedule is yet to be finalized. The arrangement ensures that India and Pakistan’s matches in this eight-team tournament will occur smoothly without geopolitical tensions disrupting the event.

The ICC has also hinted at exploring a triangular or quadrangular T20I series involving India and Pakistan to further foster cricketing ties, possibly including other Asian nations.

This hybrid hosting model is seen as a significant step to ensure the smooth conduct of ICC tournaments while addressing the ongoing geopolitical challenges between the two cricketing giants.

This prestigious nomination allows her to officiate in women’s bilateral international matches and ICC women’s events. Her first assignment will be during the upcoming T20I series between Pakistan and South Africa, starting Monday in Multan.

Reflecting on her achievement, Imtiaz expressed her gratitude and dedication, saying, “The journey has been filled with hard work and personal sacrifices, but now, standing at the cusp of this new chapter, it all feels worth it. This isn’t just a win for me, it’s a win for every aspiring female cricketer and umpire in Pakistan.”

Imtiaz, the mother of Pakistani cricketer Kainat Imtiaz, has already officiated in 22 T20Is, 16 as an on-field umpire and six as a TV umpire. Her latest appearance was in the Women’s Asia Cup final between India and Sri Lanka in Dambulla.

Starting her umpiring career in 2008, Imtiaz has steadily risen through the ranks, officiating in key tournaments like the 2022 Asia Cup and the 2023 ACC Emerging Women’s Cup. Now, her goal is to continue performing at the highest level and build her reputation as a respected official.

In other developments, Ahmed Shahab, Khalid Mehmood Sr., Rana Muhammad Arshad, and Qaiser Waheed have been promoted to the PCB Elite Panel of Umpires, with several others being elevated to the PCB Supplementary Panel.

The pitch at the venue was rated as ‘unsatisfactory,’ drawing criticism for its poor quality. Despite the concerns, the pitch used for the India vs Pakistan match was not labeled as poor.

Pitch Concerns

Nassau County Cricket Stadium:

The pitch was heavily criticized and even deemed ‘dangerous’ by some.

The average score at the venue was just 108, with the highest score being 137 across 16 innings.

ICC Ratings:

Not all matches at Nassau were rated poorly. The India vs Pakistan match, where India defended a modest 119 runs, was not flagged by the ICC.

However, matches like India vs Ireland and Sri Lanka vs South Africa at the same venue received poor ratings due to low-scoring games with less than 100 runs in both innings.

Broader Criticism

Brian Lara Stadium:

Another venue under the ICC’s microscope is the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad.

The pitch for the first semifinal between Afghanistan and South Africa was also rated poorly, with Afghanistan being bowled out for just 56 runs.

Coaches’ Reactions:

Jonathan Trott, Afghanistan’s head coach, expressed his dissatisfaction with the pitch, calling it unsuitable for a World Cup semifinal. He emphasized the need for a fair contest, where players can confidently use their skills without worrying about unpredictable pitch behavior.

With the tournament scheduled for February-March 2025, the PCB has not yet addressed the possibility of India not traveling to Pakistan.

Currently, India’s participation hinges on government approval, which remains uncertain. The PCB has not prepared alternative plans, such as hosting India’s matches in a neutral location, despite the growing concerns.

India has expressed its preference for a hybrid model similar to the one used in the 2023 Asia Cup, indicating that they will not travel to Pakistan. If a satisfactory arrangement is not made, India may boycott the event.

The ICC had expected the PCB to make arrangements for a potential neutral venue but is disappointed by the lack of progress. Pakistan remains firm on hosting the entire tournament within its borders, leaving the situation unresolved as the event approaches.

The USA vs. Ireland match, which was crucial for the Super 8 qualifications, was called off without a ball being bowled. This result secured the USA’s spot in the next round and made them the first associate team to reach this stage in their debut T20 World Cup.

For Pakistan, the cancellation of the match means a disappointing end to their tournament. They are now knocked out and will need to compete in qualifiers to secure a place in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
The Super 8 stage will feature teams that have performed well in this tournament, and the top-ranked teams will join them based on their standings. The remaining spots will be filled through regional qualifiers. The USA’s success marks a significant milestone for USA Cricket, highlighting their rapid progress in the international arena.

Pakistan did not play upto their mark which caused them to be in such a “fate-game” position. The tough loss against USA has not only made Pakistan’s chances zero, but also gave USA the confidence for the Super Eights.

This dissatisfaction has led the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to swiftly take action and purchase new gym memberships during the ongoing T20 World Cup.

Despite being one of the wealthiest cricket boards globally, BCCI and the Indian team have often faced criticism for the lack of adequate facilities, even in major cricketing nations like the United States. The current issue revolves around the team’s hotel gym in Long Island, where Rohit Sharma & Co. are staying during the T20 World Cup.

Following complaints from the players about the inadequate gym facilities at the hotel, BCCI promptly acquired memberships for a popular gym chain in New York City, where the players can access better amenities and equipment.

According to reports from News18, the players were dissatisfied with the hotel gym and expressed their preference for a nearby gym. A source cited by News18 CricketNext stated, “The team doesn’t use the hotel gym and they have a membership of a gym nearby and everyone uses that. It is a very popular gym chain.”

The India Cricket Team’s stay in Long Island will conclude after their match against the USA on Wednesday, following which they will travel to Florida for their next fixtures.

However, dissatisfaction hasn’t been limited to just the gym. Team management, including Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma, also raised concerns about the practice facilities provided. Although the ICC arranged the Cantiague Park with six drop-in pitches for practice, it turned out to be more of a family park than a professional cricket practice venue. Despite these concerns, neither the team management nor the BCCI lodged an official complaint with the ICC regarding the practice facility issue.

The uneven bounce, extreme swing, and seam movement made batting extremely difficult, with both Sri Lanka and Ireland being bowled out for under 100 runs (Sri Lanka – 77, Ireland – 96).

In a statement released on Thursday, the ICC acknowledged the issues: “The pitches used so far at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not played as consistently as we would have all wanted.” The ICC assured fans that steps are being taken to improve the pitch conditions: “The world-class grounds team have been working hard since the conclusion of yesterday’s game to remedy the situation and deliver the best possible surfaces for the remaining matches.”

The pitch problems have cast uncertainty over the upcoming India vs Pakistan match on June 9. If the ICC tries to fix the pitch too quickly, there is a risk of making it too easy for batsmen, which could favor India’s strong batting lineup. The goal is to achieve a balanced pitch where both batting and bowling have fair opportunities. However, making changes too rapidly could create new issues.

Upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 matches at Nassau Stadium, New York:
– Match 13: Canada vs Ireland
– Match 16: Netherlands vs South Africa
– Match 19: India vs Pakistan
– Match 21: South Africa vs Bangladesh
– Match 22: Pakistan vs Canada
– Match 25: USA vs India

As of now, fans are eager to see how the pitch conditions will evolve and how it will impact the high-stakes matches, particularly the much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan.
