Siraj dismissed Head, who had played a brilliant knock of 140 off 141 balls, with an aggressive celebration, seemingly directed at the Australian dressing room. Head, not backing down, responded strongly, and the two engaged in a heated verbal altercation.

Following the incident, Head told the press that he only said “well bowled” to Siraj. However, Siraj has now responded, claiming that Head’s comments were not truthful. In an interview with Harbhajan Singh on Star Sports ahead of Day 3, Siraj shared his version of events, explaining that while he relished the contest with Head, the Australian batter’s remarks post-match were misleading.

“I enjoyed bowling at him because it was a good battle. When you get hit by a good delivery, it gives you more energy. I celebrated after the wicket and you saw what was said on TV. I didn’t say anything on TV, but he lied in the press conference, saying he told me ‘well bowled.’ We know it wasn’t that,” Siraj stated.

“We don’t disrespect anyone. Cricket is a gentleman’s game, but the way he behaved was wrong,” he added.

Siraj’s aggressive celebration after dismissing Head had attracted criticism, including from former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, who also called out the pacer’s actions.

With the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy just two months away, tensions are already rising between Australia and India. In the latest exchange, Australian opener Travis Head has rejected Indian pacer Mohammed Shami’s claim that India is the favourite to win the upcoming series.

Shami recently said, “India is the favourite to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” referring to India’s past successes, including their memorable wins on Australian soil in recent years. He believes India’s young team has proven its strength and can win again.

However, Head has a different view. Speaking to Star Sports, he expressed confidence in Australia’s chances, saying, “I don’t see India as the favourites. We’ve played against them frequently, and I’ve been in good form. The competition is always intense, but I wouldn’t call them my favourites.”

Head acknowledged India’s strength but is focused on preparing well for the upcoming series. “They are tough opponents, but I’ve enjoyed playing against them and performing in a few games. I’m looking forward to a successful summer for us,” he added.

India has been dominant in recent years, winning the last four Border-Gavaskar series, including two historic victories in Australia. This series will be closely watched as both teams aim to prove their supremacy in one of cricket’s most intense rivalries.

The 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy will feature five Test matches, starting in November, with the teams playing both day and day-night matches across iconic Australian venues.

This marks the first time since December 2023 that Suryakumar is not the top-ranked T20I batter.

Travis Head’s exceptional performance in the T20 World Cup has propelled him to the top of the rankings. His explosive innings of 76 runs off just 43 balls against India in the final Super Eight clash was a key highlight. Although Australia did not advance further, Head’s overall tournament performance was outstanding. He scored 255 runs in seven matches at an average of 42.5, with a tournament-leading strike rate of 158.39 among batsmen with over 200 runs.

Despite losing the top spot, Suryakumar Yadav remains a formidable contender. He has slipped to No. 2 with 149 runs in six World Cup outings, trailing Head by just two rating points. A strong performance in India’s upcoming semi-final against England could see him reclaim the top position. If he continues his form and reaches the final, he might regain his No. 1 ranking.

Among Pakistani players, both Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have dropped one spot each. Babar Azam has moved from third to fourth place, while Mohammad Rizwan is now ranked fifth. This comes after a challenging T20 World Cup campaign for Pakistan.
