Dhumal, Dalmiya set for re-election to IPL Governing Council; Chamundeswaranath to continue as ICA representative

Arun Singh Dhumal and Abhishek Dalmiya are expected to be re-elected as members of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council (GC) at the upcoming BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 29 in Bengaluru. As there have been no other nominations against them, the two will be elected unopposed. The decision is part of an annual process, where two representatives of the General Body are chosen for the IPL GC.

Dhumal’s re-election ensures that he will continue as the IPL chairman for at least another year, during a pivotal time as the league heads toward a mega auction. The IPL GC will also meet to discuss other key issues, including player retention policies and the salary cap.

Chamundeswaranath Continues as ICA Representative

Another key agenda item is the appointment of a representative from the Indian Cricketers’ Association (ICA) to the IPL GC. V Chamundeswaranath, a former Andhra and South Zone cricketer, has been renominated by the ICA for the role, ensuring continuity. This decision was confirmed by ICA Secretary Hitesh Muzumdar.

BCCI Representative to the ICC

The AGM will also address the appointment of BCCI representatives to the International Cricket Council (ICC). Currently, Jay Shah holds this position, but with Shah set to take over as the Independent Chairman of the ICC on December 1, a new candidate will need to be appointed. The AGM may appoint two representatives, with the second one assuming the role after Shah officially transitions to his ICC position in Dubai.

Upcoming BCCI Secretary Election

While appointing Jay Shah’s successor as the BCCI Secretary is a crucial matter, it is not on the current AGM agenda. A Special General Meeting (SGM) will be convened once Shah steps down, which is expected by the end of November. The BCCI will then have 45 days to elect a new secretary, with the announcement likely around January 15.
