Dwayne Bravo joins Kolkata Knight Riders as mentor for IPL 2025

Dwayne Bravo, the legendary West Indian all-rounder, has been appointed as the mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2025. Bravo steps into this role after announcing his retirement from professional cricket last Friday, marking a new chapter in his career. He takes over from Gautam Gambhir, who recently moved on to become the head coach of the Indian team.

Bravo replaces former KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir, who played a pivotal role in leading the team to its third IPL title. With Gambhir taking on his new role with the Indian team, Bravo’s experience and expertise will be vital for KKR.

This is Bravo’s second coaching stint in the IPL. After retiring from the league as a player in 2022, he took on the role of bowling coach for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2023. His coaching debut was marked by success, as CSK clinched the IPL title by defeating the defending champions, Gujarat Titans.

Bravo’s responsibilities extend beyond just KKR. As part of the Knight Riders banner, he will also mentor Trinbago Knight Riders (CPL), Los Angeles Knight Riders (MLC), and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ILT20). The decision was finalized after discussions with KKR CEO Venky Mysore during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

With an illustrious IPL career spanning 161 matches, Bravo scored 1560 runs and took 183 wickets. Known as one of T20 cricket’s top death bowlers, he stands third on the IPL’s all-time wicket-takers list and remains the only player in IPL history to have won the purple cap twice.

KKR fans will be excited to see what the team achieves with Bravo’s vast experience and strategic acumen guiding them in the 2025 season.
