Delhi High Court blocks unauthorized streaming of ongoing T20 World Cup

The Delhi High Court has taken action against unauthorized streaming of the T20 World Cup by rogue websites. In response to a lawsuit filed by official broadcaster Star Sports India, the court has restrained several websites from illegally disseminating cricket matches on their platforms.
Court Order to Protect Broadcasting Rights
The court emphasized the need for swift action to protect the broadcaster’s investment in the T20 World Cup and uphold copyright protections. The judgement stated, “Swift action to prevent such infringements is crucial to preserving the plaintiff’s investment in the broadcasting rights and maintaining their copyright protection.”
The court order specifically prohibits defendants from streaming or making available any part of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 without authorization. This includes any form of electronic or digital platform.
Measures Against Unauthorized Access
In addition to restraining the websites, the court has directed internet and telecom service providers to block access to these unauthorized streaming sites, ensuring that the official broadcaster’s rights are safeguarded.
This ruling underscores the importance of protecting intellectual property rights and maintaining the integrity of sports broadcasting.
