Guyana Amazon Warriors retain core Guyanese contingent for CPL 2024

Shai Hope, the Player of the Tournament in CPL 2023, and Shimron Hetmyer are among the nine Guyanese players the Guyana Amazon Warriors have retained ahead of the 2024 edition, the franchise confirmed on Thursday (June 6).

Romario Shepherd, Gudakesh Motie, and Keemo Paul are other high-profile names retained, who will be playing for their home team next season as well.

However, the Warriors have not made a single retention among the overseas players, even letting go of their captain Imran Tahir. Pakistan’s Saim Ayub and Azam Khan, Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz (who was later replaced by Mohammad Haris), and South Africa’s Dwaine Pretorius were the other foreign players on GAW’s roster.

The franchise can now sign up to five overseas players for the 2024 season, whereas the remaining three slots will be filled at the CPL draft, due in July.

As the Guyana Amazon Warriors prepare for the upcoming CPL edition, they have chosen to retain their core Guyanese contingent, which includes several standout performers from the previous season. This decision reflects the franchise’s commitment to nurturing local talent and building a formidable team around a strong Guyanese backbone.
