Harsha Bhogle clarifies comments on Virat Kohli’s role in different formats

Famed cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle found himself at the center of a social media storm after a video snippet of his comments on Virat Kohli’s role in different cricket formats circulated online. Bhogle’s remarks, made at the SHRM India Talent Leadership Summit & Expo 2024 in Mumbai, sparked controversy as they were taken out of context.

In the video, Bhogle discussed how players like Virat Kohli, who excel in all three formats of the game, sometimes face the challenge of adapting their game to suit the team’s requirements. He highlighted the example of Kohli potentially needing to get out in certain situations to allow for a more aggressive batsman to take charge, particularly in T20 cricket.

However, the video clip that went viral omitted Bhogle’s full comments, leading to misunderstandings and criticism on social media platforms. Disappointed by the selective editing, Bhogle took to social media to request the release of the entire video for better context.

“This is an example of what I was talking about with social media. The video is cropped just before the point where I say that Virat is capable of playing across situations but that I was only highlighting how even the greatest players have to keep adjusting demands and priorities,” Bhogle expressed in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

He urged the news agency PTI_News to share the complete clip, emphasizing the importance of transparent reporting to prevent misinterpretations. Bhogle reiterated his disappointment with the dissemination of only a truncated version of his remarks, underlining the need for accurate and comprehensive information sharing on social media platforms.
