IND vs AUS 3rd Test: Travis Head’s groin injury raises concerns, participation in next Test uncertain

Australia faced another major setback on Day 5 of the ongoing third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, as star middle-order batter Travis Head suffered a suspected groin injury. Head, who played a pivotal role in Australia’s previous victory, could not field for more than 10 minutes during India’s second innings, sparking concerns about his availability for the next Test.

Head’s absence is particularly significant given his stellar form, scoring a century in the first innings of the third Test and following up on his match-winning performance in the second Test. Former players Brett Lee and Brad Haddin, during commentary, highlighted the gravity of the situation.

Brad Haddin remarked: “It doesn’t look good, he didn’t even field for 10 minutes.”

However, Cricket.com.au provided a conflicting update, quoting an Australian team spokesperson, who insisted it is “incorrect that Head has a groin injury.”

With Josh Hazlewood already ruled out for the remainder of the series, Travis Head’s uncertain status poses a significant challenge for the Australian team as they head into the crucial fourth Test.

The third Test match between India and Australia at the Gabba ended in a draw after persistent rain and bad light disrupted play on the final day. Chasing a target of 275 runs in 56 overs, India managed to score 8/0 in 2.1 overs before the players were taken off the field for an early tea break, and play was eventually called off.
