IND vs SL: Shivam Dube secures maiden ODI wicket since debut in 2019
In the ongoing first ODI between India and Sri Lanka, Shivam Dube claimed his maiden ODI wicket in a comical fashion. Dube was late to join the appeal for an LBW against Kusal Mendis, only raising his arm after KL Rahul had already started appealing from behind the stumps.
The delivery was a good length ball, angled in and straightening just enough to beat Mendis. He prodded forward, missed the outside edge, and was struck on the back pad. The umpire, Raveendra Wimalasiri, made the right call as ball-tracking showed it hitting off and middle-stump. Mendis was out for 14 runs off 31 balls, including one boundary.
This wicket marks Dube’s first in an ODI since his debut in 2019, ending a five-year wait for this milestone. Gautam Gambhir, the new head coach, has given Dube another chance to prove his presence with the important Champions Trophy, ODI World Cup, and Asia Cup coming soon.
