Inoka Ranaweera named in Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup squad

Sri Lanka has announced their 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, featuring the return of experienced spinner Inoka Ranaweera. The 38-year-old left-arm orthodox bowler, who last played for Sri Lanka during their unbeaten run in the T20 World Cup Qualifiers earlier this year, replaces pacer Kawya Kavindi in the squad.
The core group that led Sri Lanka to their recent Asia Cup triumph remains intact, with Chamari Athapaththu once again leading the side as captain. Sri Lanka’s impressive international form, including victories in England and South Africa, has influenced the selectors’ decision to maintain consistency in the squad.
Notable inclusions alongside Ranaweera are young opener Vishmi Gunaratne and middle-order batter Kavisha Dilhari, both of whom impressed during the recent South African tour. Harshitha Samarawickrama, the Player of the Match in the Asia Cup final, also retains her spot.
Sri Lanka’s World Cup campaign will kick off on October 3 against Pakistan. They are placed in Group A with other strong teams like India, Australia, New Zealand, and Pakistan.
