IPL 2025: Retention deadline set for October 31, mega auction likely in late November

Franchises participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 have until October 31 to finalize their retention lists. Teams can retain up to six players, with a limit of five Indian or Overseas players and up to two uncapped players. The deadline for submission of the retention list is 5 PM IST on October 31, after which all retained players will be confirmed for the next season.

As per the retention rules, any player who becomes capped by October 31, 2024, will be considered a capped player for retention purposes.

Mega Auction Expected in Late November
The exact venue and date for the IPL 2025 mega auction have not yet been announced. However, sources suggest that it may take place outside India, with Dubai, Doha, or Saudi Arabia as possible locations. Potential dates being discussed are November 16-17 or November 23-24, in line with last year’s timeline, where the auction was held around 25 days after retentions were submitted.

If the same schedule is followed, the IPL 2025 mega auction is expected to occur around November 23-24 or 25-26, confirming a late November auction date.

This retention and auction schedule is crucial for franchises to plan their squads and strategies, making it one of the most anticipated events leading up to the new IPL season.
