Travis Head is reportedly in line for a captaincy promotion for the upcoming Sri Lanka series after his stellar performance in the IND vs AUS series, where he scored an 89 and two centuries. According to Yahoo Sport, regular skipper Pat Cummins is likely to miss the tour due to the expected birth of his second child.
While Steve Smith remains the vice-captain, Head’s current form and leadership potential make him a strong candidate to take over the reins. The Sri Lanka series, beginning on January 29 and ending on February 6, will hold significance for Australia in the context of the World Test Championship final.
Cummins, reflecting on balancing family and cricket commitments, emphasized the importance of family time, stating, “Within reason, no one is ever going to bat an eyelid if someone needs to put their family first… We want people to have long, successful careers for Australia.”
Australia is expected to announce the official captaincy decision soon as preparations for the Sri Lanka tour gain momentum.
