India has announced its squad for the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe, with exciting new talents Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma, and Nitish Reddy earning their first call-ups. Shubman Gill will captain the team for this series.
The selection comes as a reward for the impressive performances of Parag, Sharma, and Reddy in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Parag and Sharma, in particular, stood out with their batting prowess, with Sharma scoring 484 runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Parag amassing 573 runs for Rajasthan Royals. Reddy’s all-round capabilities have also earned him a spot.
Senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested after their participation in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the Americas.
The tour includes five T20 Internationals starting on July 6. Joining the new call-ups are other notable IPL performers like Tushar Deshpande, Harshit Rana, Avesh Khan, and Rinku Singh. Additionally, Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who were benched during the T20 World Cup, will also feature in the 15-member squad.
Gill and Avesh Khan were part of the reserves for India’s T20 World Cup campaign and have been released to join the Zimbabwe tour since they were unlikely to play further in the tournament.
