Historic Upset: USA defeats Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2024

In a shocking turn of events, the Pakistan cricket team faced their worst-ever defeat, losing to the USA in their T20 World Cup 2024 opener.

Despite a shaky start, Pakistan managed to post a competitive total of 159, recovering from 26/3, thanks to contributions from Babar Azam and Shadab Khan.

However, the USA was strong in their chase, cruising to 104/1 after 13 overs. Pakistan fought back, but the USA needed just 15 runs off the last over. With 12 needed off the final three balls, Aaron Jones and Nitish Kumar managed to tie the game, sending it into a super over.

In the super over, Harmeet Singh and Aaron Jones smashed Mohammed Amir for 18 runs. Saurabh Netravalkar then held his nerve, conceding only 15 runs and securing a historic victory for the USA at the Grand Prairie Stadium.

Pakistan’s Critical Mistakes

Haris Rauf: Conceded 11 runs in his last three balls, which led to the super over.

Shadab Khan: Despite a solid batting performance, Shadab struggled with the ball, conceding 27 runs in 3 overs and failing to take a wicket.

Usman Khan: Showed intent but couldn’t capitalize on his start, scoring only 3 runs.

Fakhar Zaman: Smashed a six on his first ball but couldn’t build on it, falling for 11 runs.

Azam Khan: Continued the poor start by getting out on duck.

This defeat is a major setback for Pakistan, highlighting the need for improvement in crucial moments of the game. Overall, Pakistan made a comeback in the last 5 overs by limiting USA under the run-rate of 6, but the poor fielding in the last over and also in the super over was not expected by Pakistan team.
