IND vs BAN: Morne Morkel excited to start his journey as India’s bowling coach
Former South African pacer Morne Morkel, known for his steep bounce and success across all formats, is now India’s bowling coach. Morkel, who also made an impact in the IPL, secured the role after working with Gautam Gambhir at Lucknow Super Giants. He takes over from other prominent contenders, including L. Balaji.
As Morkel prepares for his first assignment against Bangladesh, starting at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on September 19, he feels confident about the team’s set-up. Speaking at India’s training camp, Morkel said he doesn’t need to make major changes, as the system already operates smoothly.
Reflecting on accepting the coaching role, Morkel shared that he first called his dad to discuss the opportunity before telling his family. He is excited to contribute to the Indian cricket team and hopes to bring his experience as a player to help the team continue its success.
On his first day, Morkel focused on getting to know the players, their strengths, and weaknesses, while helping them set goals for the upcoming series. He was impressed by the professionalism and commitment of the team.
Morkel’s primary objective as bowling coach is to connect with the players, build relationships, and help them perform under pressure. He emphasized the importance of making players feel welcome in the team environment so that they can thrive on the field.
With a talented squad and experienced senior players, Morkel is looking forward to supporting the team and helping them achieve even greater success in the future.
