IPL: Romario Shepherd says he is ready for the role in Mumbai Indians

West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd is gearing up for a new challenge as he gets set to join the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite his recent successes in the Bangladesh Premier League with Chattogram Challengers, Shepherd understands the competitive nature of the Mumbai Indians squad and is prepared for a potential bench role.
Having previously represented Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, Shepherd is no stranger to the dynamics of franchise cricket. “I know how to wait because I have been waiting very long in West Indies and whichever team,” Shepherd remarked in an interview with Cricbuzz. “It’s up to the franchise and whoever selects the team because they know what they need against each team.”
Shepherd is excited about the opportunity to play for Mumbai Indians, one of the most prestigious franchises in the world. “For me, it’s a big step in my career to play for one of the biggest franchises in the world,” he expressed. “I want to continue doing the stuff that actually made them pick me for the side.”
Despite the likelihood of limited game time, Shepherd remains focused and ready to seize any opportunity that comes his way. “For me, it’s all about being ready, staying ready so whenever you are called upon, that you are ready,” he emphasized.
Known for his powerful hitting, Shepherd adopts a quality-focused approach to his training, prioritizing effectiveness over quantity. “I am not someone who goes out and hits 1000 balls,” he explained. “I want to feel I am where I am at the start of the game.”
Reflecting on his journey, Shepherd acknowledges the challenges he faced in honing his power-hitting skills but remains committed to continuous improvement. “It was something that I had to work on to hit the ball in the air, and I am still improving,” he disclosed.
As he prepares to join Mumbai Indians for the IPL, Shepherd remains optimistic and eager to contribute to the team’s success, demonstrating readiness to make the most of every opportunity that comes his way.
