BCCI considers UAE as possible venue for IPL 2025 mega auction

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is keeping its options open for hosting the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, with a strong possibility of the event being held overseas. BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla indicated that the UAE and South Africa are both potential venues for the auction, although hosting it in India is still under consideration.

Overseas Attraction and Venue Options

The decision to hold the auction abroad is part of the BCCI’s strategy to attract international fans and boost the global appeal of the Indian Premier League (IPL). “We are contemplating both options,” Shukla stated in a press conference. “It may be abroad also. Last time we had it in Dubai, and it was very successful. The whole idea is to take some elements of cricket overseas and engage fans globally.”

Dubai’s Success and Past Overseas Editions

The previous IPL auction took place in Dubai, and its success has prompted the BCCI to consider the UAE as a strong contender for the 2025 event. Additionally, past IPL tournaments have been hosted outside India, with the UAE and South Africa both having experience in staging the league.

Connecting with Overseas Fans

The BCCI is exploring ways to bring cricket closer to international fans. Shukla emphasized that even if the IPL matches are not held overseas, hosting the auction there could still strengthen fan engagement. “If we can’t have matches there, at least we should organize such events overseas,” he added. The goal is to create a stronger connection with fans worldwide and make the IPL an even more global event.

As the BCCI weighs its options, the final venue for the IPL 2025 Mega Auction will be determined based on its potential to attract audiences and create a larger international footprint for the league
