Irani Cup 2024-25: Devdutt Padikkal’s stunning catch dismisses Prithvi Shaw early

In an exciting start to the Irani Cup 2024-25 clash between Mumbai and Rest of India, Devdutt Padikkal pulled off a brilliant one-handed catch to dismiss Mumbai’s opener, Prithvi Shaw. The match, played at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on October 1, saw Rest of India captain Ruturaj Gaikwad opting to bowl first after winning the toss.
The Rest of India made an early breakthrough in the third over of the game when Mukesh Kumar delivered a ball that Shaw edged towards the second slip. Padikkal, fielding at the position, executed a spectacular diving catch to his right, taking the ball with one hand and sending Shaw back to the pavilion after just seven deliveries for four runs. This gave the Ranji Trophy champions an early setback.

The momentum continued for Rest of India as Mukesh Kumar struck again in the same over. On the fourth delivery, Mumbai’s Hardik Tamore was dismissed for a three-ball duck. Tamore played a loose shot to a fuller delivery by Kumar, resulting in a catch by wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel. At the time of writing, Mumbai had scored 43 runs while losing three crucial wickets.
